Case Study of P&ID Project :

The project involves conversion of dumb P&IDs into Intelligent P&IDs along with attachments of specificationdatasheets, detailed drawings and otherrelevant data to the P&ID components using SmartPlant P&ID software. The project also involves setting up of SmartPlant Explorer software for viewing the P&IDs and the attachments on the Server and Client machines.

The Project :

IBN has delivered a Pilot consisting of 11 P&IDs along with document attachments and work is in progress for the delivery of rest of the P&IDs.Basic Inputs received are dumb Microstation P&IDs. The documents like process data sheets, equipment datasheets, Loop diagrams, Vendor P&IDs were received in form of scanned Image files in Tif format.

The Scope Involves Customization of Reference data - 500 symbols and labels Customized Border with Intelligent Title Block

Database Customization - 150 attributes and Select list entries.

Total 137 P&IDs will be finally setup on SmartPlant Explorer for plant wide Access.

Deliverables Generated by IBN :
  • Customized Reference data
  • Intelligent P&IDs along withattached documents.
  • Database Dump Files

Project Status :
IBN executed the Pilot for demo to the clients successfully. Efforts are on for the delivery of complete project successfully as per schedule & quality standards. IBN follows the common implementation stages but its experience gives ability to lead the domain.

Intelligence to P&IDs are added in four stages:

Stage 1: Direct conversion of a hardcopy or a MicroStation/AutoCADŽ P&ID into an Intelligent P&ID. Basic attributes such as tag number, operating para-meters, equipment class, pipe size, etc. are associated with the different components on theP&ID.

Stage 2: Electronic documents are attached to different components.

  • Specification sheets, technical drawings
  • Operating procedures
  • Shutdown and re-commissioning procedures and schedules
  • Safety information
  • Failure and maintenance history

Stage 3 : Capturing instrumentation data involves entering the data from documents and drawings:

  • Instrument index
  • Instrument data sheets
  • Instrument specifications
  • Wiring and loop diagrams
  • Hook-up drawings

Stage 4 : Create links to relevant, existing databases. Typical databases are:

  • Inventory database
  • Maintenance database
  • Performance signature database
